Tracks:

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson: Self-Discovery: Neil deGrasse Tyson is a science communicator. With his education in astrophysics and cosmology, he uses that knowledge to explain complex problems to non-experts. Tyson is a person that questions everything as he strives to learn more about our Universe and himself. Discover programs and presentations designed to grow personal passions, inspire reflection, and self-development with the variety of Residence Life student staff positions.
  • Marie Curie: Discover Difference: Marie Curie was the first person and only woman to win a Nobel Prize twice, and the only person to win twice in multiple sciences. Although women and other groups are still underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Marie Curie’s chemistry discoveries have helped pave the way for more diverse thought in the field.  Discover programs and presentations that help to promote social justice, diversity, and advocacy for residents and staff.
  • Steve Jobs: Discover Leadership: As the cofounder and former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs is best known for his engaging presentations and unique leadership style. Come discover your path as a Leader with programs and presentations that inspire leadership development or share unique ways you campus is a unique leader in Residence Life.
  • Elon Musk: Discover Hot Topics: Elon Musk, the founder of PayPal, is the up and coming engineer and inventor of today with huge projects like Tesla Motors, Space X, and a conceptual high-speed transportation system called Hyperloop. Like Elon Musk in the engineering world, discover what new and burning topics are trending in Residence Life and Housing. What hot topics are you currently experiencing on your campus that you want to share with others or learn more about?
  • Leonardo da Vinci: Discover Community: Arguably the most diversely talented person to have ever lived, Leonardo da Vinci was an inventor, architect, engineer, painter, musician, scientist, sculptor, and much more. Da Vinci was always curious and wanted to learn more and share his knowledge with everyone. Discover programs and presentations that share how to build, plan, expand, or create a strong community or program. Miscellaneous programs will fall in this track.
  • Manhattan Project: Discover Concerns: The Manhattan Project was responsible for developing the first atomic bomb. There were and still are many concerns and problems with this program. However, like most conflicts and problems, they were worked out as a team and with help just like in Residence Life. Discover programs and presentations that promote best practices around student concerns, conflict management, or how to fare a crisis.
  • Aristotle: Discover Advising: Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and scientist. To this day, Aristotle remains as one of the most influential people to have ever live. He is also regarded as the first teacher. Discover programs and presentations designed specifically for advisors or supervisors to share best practices or seek input on how to build the best possible student staff or department.

Types of Programs:

  • Roundtable: Designed as a place to share. Discover answers to your burning questions with presenters doing a brief presentation on Residence Life-centric topics, and then approximately a half hour of discussion for all participants to discover more about this topic.
  • Sample Program: Designed as a place to experience. Discover what others have done and learn from the best. Presenters will take the whole session to share the planning and implementation of programs and share with the group. An interactive experience is preferred.
  • Lecture: Designed as a place to listen. Discover from the presenters their insights from their home campus in a lecture-style format.
